Announcing a New Program of Movement Research: GPS/Global Practice Sharing

Abby_BA_2Movement Research’s international exchange program, GPS/Global Practice Sharing, provides a platform for the international exchange of ideas, processes and reflective practices surrounding dance and movement based forms between the U.S. and Eastern/Central Europe. GPS posits that dialogue across differences necessarily catalyzes the generation of new knowledge and creative innovation. By investing in the mobility of artists, curators and cultural workers GPS advances cross cultural understanding and the development of the contemporary arts field at large. This program is directed by Marýa Wethers, Director of International Initiatives at Movement Research.

Recent GPS projects in 2016 include a two-week teaching residency by Abby Zbikowski (IL) at the Latvian Academy of Culture from March 26-April 10, 2016 in partnership with the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and Contemporary Dance Choreographers Union in Latvia. Upcoming projects include a three-week research residency by Mary Read (NYC) in partnership with ZIL Culture Center in Moscow, Russia from May 15-June 5, 2016.

The GPS/Global Practice Sharing program of Movement Research is supported by funding from the Trust for Mutual Understanding.
