Barbara Mahler is a widely respected, choreographer, movement educator, bodyworker, a recipient of a 2013 BAX Arts Educator Award. She travels extensively as a guest artist to many festivals and colleges as a master teacher of and major contributor in the development and outreach of Klein Technique™. Her choreographic vision and passion is the small and intimate dance. An alumni of Hunter College, NYC, she holds an MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Barbara has been a recipient of many grants and residencies to support her teaching and choreographic research. Most recently, she has been a Movement Research Artist-in-Residence, a recipient of CAVE residency, a member of LEAP, 2011-12 and EMERGE 2014, a collaborative residency event at EarthDance. She is senior faculty and certified practitioner of ZeroBalancing. www.barbaramahler.net

luciana achugar is a Brooklyn-based choreographer from Uruguay who grew as an artist in close dialogue with the NY and Montevideo contemporary dance communities. She began making work collaboratively with Levi Gonzalez in 1999, and in 2002 she started working independently. Her work is concerned with the post-colonial world, searching for an undoing of current power structures from the inside out. She is a two-time “Bessie” recipient, a Guggenheim Fellow and Creative Capital Grantee

MELT Intensives are a series of daily workshops in technique, somatics, improvisation, composition and other areas offered each summer (5 weeks) and winter (3 weeks). Taught by Movement Research’s internationally recognized faculty as well as acclaimed guest artists, these workshops provide students with the unique opportunity to engage with some of the most highly regarded and innovative artists in the field of dance today.

He teaches for many companies and schools such as P.A.R.T.S. (Brussels), Sasha Waltz Company (Berlin), ImpulsTanz (Vienna), The Place (London), SUNY Purchase (NY) and many more. Ori performed with Stephen Petronio Company, Neil Greenberg, Molissa Fenley, Maria Hassabi and Michael Clark, among others.

Gwen Welliver is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher. Welliver performed with Doug Varone and Dancers (’90-’00), was a recipient of a “Bessie” for Sustained Achievement (’00), and served as Rehearsal Director for the Trisha Brown Dance Company (’00-’07). Welliver is a 2013 New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow in Choreography. She has been a Movement Research faculty member since 1997 and currently teaches at Sarah Lawrence College.

How to learn rigorous physical and vocal actions while practicing presence? How to be present during the breaks and the breaths between those actions? We will work with exercises developed in almost 20 years of Balduzzi’s practice that focus on impulse and stop, rhythm, opposition. This training allows participants to become more deeply connected to their own intuitions and impulses and better able to respond to them truthfully, fearlessly, and joyfully. read more

Jennifer Nugent has had the pleasure of dancing with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company from 2009-2013 and David Dorfman Dance from 1999-2007. She has also had opportunities to work intensively with Daniel Lepkoff, Nina Winthrop, Lisa Race, Yin Mei, Doug Elkins, Bill Young, Colleen Thomas, Kate Weare, Martha Clarke, Gerri Houlihan, and Dale Andre. Jennifer was a 2008 Movement Research Artist-in-Residence and has taught and performed her own work at festivals, theaters, and universities throughout the U.S., Korea, Russia, and Vietnam.

Silke Grabinger got in touch with breakdance in 1997. She performed in the Cirque du Soleil / The Beatles Show LOVE in Las Vegas, solo and as an aerial artist, and has worked with choreographers Dave St.Pierre, Margie Gillis, and Daniel Ezralow. Her first solo performance is entitled [SLIK], in cooperation with Pilottanzt. [SLIK] was the winner of the Linz09 award (culture capital city of Europe) and toured Europe and Africa. She was granted the scholarship for music and performing arts and received the Austrian design state award. She created the character ANIMA in playGuldaplay of the honor of Friedrich Gulda, with Paul Gulda, Martha Agerich a. o. in the Wiener Konzerthaus. Silke Grabinger developed a “movement notation for musicians” for the performance Moving Architecture with composer Bernhard Lang which is based on the architecture of the Austrian Cultural Forum NYC. In her current work, she volunteers to be an experimental subject in the time frame of 10 minutes each for different international choreographers: Benoit Lachambre, Anne Juren, Oleg Soulimenko, Philippe/Superamas, Hubert Lepka, and comedian Dirk Stermann. www.silk.at

Ivy Baldwin is a Brooklyn-based choreographer, performer, teacher, and founder of Ivy Baldwin Dance. Since 1999, the company has performed nationally, all over the great NYC, and internationally. In 2012 Baldwin was an LMCC Swing Space Artist, Bogliasco Foundation Dance Fellow in Bogliasco, Italy, and performed Ambient Cowboy, a new evening-length dance commissioned by New York Live Arts. Currently, Baldwin is thrilled to be a 2013 artist-in-residence at The Wooden Floor in Santa Ana, CA where she is choreographing a new dance on 62 kids ages 12-17. Please visit ivybaldwindance.org.

Pachamama: Mother World

Pachamama: Mother World looks at the ritualistic similarities between two geographically different cultures, Native Americans and South American Natives. The division line between Ritual and Performance blurs, becoming both an anthropological study and a creation of Dance Theater.

Originally from Argentina, Anabella Lenzu is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher with over 20 years of experience working in Argentina, Chile, Italy, and the USA. She conducts classes at Peridance Center, Wagner College, and Lehman College. Lenzu is also a published author for various dance and arts magazines, and plans to debut her first book in March 2013, entitled Unveiling Motion and Emotion. The book contains writings in Spanish and English on the importance of dance, community, choreography, and dance pedagogy.
