Mouse Auditions

Choreographed by: Melinda Ring
Performed by: Alexandra Albrecht, Brendan Drake, Elisabete Finger, Inka Juslin, Joseph Kipp, Jeremy Olson, Enrico Wey, Robert Yahner, and Anna-Luella Zahner

In the “Mouse Auditions” performers try-out for a fully imagined but never to be performed work based on Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis”. For this Judson showing I’ve focused on the very beginning of the story, the time just before, and just after, Gregor Samsa the main character wakes-up, transformed.

Today’s experiment was developed with the assistance of Alexandra Albrecht, Talya Epstein, and Joseph Kipp. This work was created in part through The Field’s Artist Residency program, supported by the Tides Foundation. The work was funded by The Friends of Special Projects, especially the Gerald Oppenheimer Family Foundation.

In her work, Melinda Ring explores a very liberal definition of choreography creating dances, performance pieces, videos and installations. Recent venues include; The Whitney Museum, The Kitchen, Danspace Project, MASS MoCA, The Tang Teaching Museum at Skidmore College, The Box, and the Santa Monica Museum of Art. Originally from Los Angeles, Ring moved to New York City in September 2001, after receiving a MFA degree from Bennington College. She is the curator for Danspace Project’s Spring 2011 Platform, Susan Rethorst: Retro (intro)spective. Read the rest of this entry »
