This Week at Movement Research…Moving Dialogue: A Bucharest/New York Dance Exchange. Presented by Movement Research, Romanian Cultural Institute New York, National Dance Center Bucharest, Dance Theater Workshop and Gabriela Tudor Foundation.

Moving Dialogue is an exchange taking place October 2010-June 2011 fostering engagement and interaction between both emerging and established American and Romanian dance artists. The project will focus on dialogue, networking, artistic process and professional development through studio research and residencies, classes and workshops, group practice sessions, panel discussions, and informal performances. Moving Dialogue is a project conceived by the partners and initiated with the support of the Romanian Cultural Institute and the National Dance Center Bucharest. It is facilitated by the artists Cosmin Manolescu (RO) and Levi Gonzalez (USA), and dedicated to Gabriela Tudor. Wednesday October 20. Studies Project: Panel Discussion.

Panelists introduce the Romanian contemporary dance scene and discuss making work in the USA and Romania. Reception to follow.

Moderated by Kathy Westwater.
We take this opportunity to examine the Movement Research Performance Journal’s history and relevance, how it operates as a vehicle for dynamic change, as a form of documentation, and as an extension of artistic practice and output. Panelists include Cathy Edwards, Ralph Lemon, Trajal Harrell, Tom Kalin, and others.

Thursday October 28. 7:30pm. DTW Studios, 219 West 19th Street.
In this open showing, Madalina Dan and Vava Stefanescu, two exciting choreographers from Bucharest, Romania, will present work in progress as the culmination of a residency in the DTW studios. Discussion and reception to follow.

Winter MELT 2011: January 3 – 21, 2011
A 3-week intensive in New York City with Movement Research’s internationally recognized faculty and acclaimed guest artists. These workshops provide students with the unique opportunity to engage with some of the most highly regarded and innovative artists in the field of dance today.

  • Do you have a fixed yearly schedule for the constant maintenance then? I’ve usually not planned anything because the seasons can shift a lot and I simply wait for the onset of hot and cold temperatures
